lugovtur Ervad Dr. Ramiyar Parvez Karanjia, born at Baroda in April 1965, took his early education from Dadar Athornan Institute, and The Dadar Parsee Youths Assembly High School in Mumbai. He qualified as a full-fledged priest and obtained the degrees of B.A. (1985), M.A. (1987) and Ph. D. in Avesta-Pahlavi (1992) from Bombay University through St Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He was a winner of 2 Golds and 1 Silver Medal and a Ranker in the University.

He is the Principal of Dadar Athornan Institute since 1995, and also Principal of Sir J. J. Z. and Mullan Feroze Institutes for Indo-Iranian studies since 1999. He is a Lecturer in Iranian languages at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and the above Institutes since 1985.

He is the Founder Director of Ahunavar Academy which he stared in May 2005 to disseminate Knowledge, conduct Research and run Courses in Religions, Spirituality and Iranian Languages. He is also the Director of Annual Structured Courses in Zoroastrianism, Mumbai. He was awarded the Wenner Gren Foundation Fellowship to pursue post-doctoral research at Uppsala University, Sweden, during October-December 1999.

He was invited by Heidelberg University, Germany, during April to June 2002 and in August 2003 to participate in a Seminar and thereafter work with a team of international scholars on a Project on Zoroastrian rituals.

In November 2002, he was invited by the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC), to present the worldwide work of ARC followed by an invitation for Dinner at the Buckingham Palace as guest of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Prince Phillip.

He is a resource person on pilgrimages to Iran. He gives talks on religion and Iranian history to children, youths and adults since 1985 all over India and also at places like Canada, London, Dubai, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Michigan. He conducts moral classes for children in Dadar since 1982.

He has written, edited and worked on the following books: “Serialised Stories from the Iranian Epic Shahnameh - Peshdad”, October, 1996; “The Iranian Epic Shahnameh in Serialised Stories - Kayan”, His other works include “Outlines of Parsee History, Zoroastyrian Religion and Ancient Iranian Art” (March 1999), “A Treasury of Zoroastrian Quotations” and “Wisdom from a Life Time (2005). He has contributed papers to Magazines and Journals on a range of subjects like Youth, Religious Education, Indo-Iranian languages, Zoroastrian Religion and Iranian History.

Ervad Dr. Karanjia has presented papers at several national and international Conferences, Seminars and Conventions like the Parliament of World Religions at Chicago (1993), International Zoroastrian Youth Congresses at Los Angeles (1993), London (1997) and Australia (2007). He has been invited to contribute entries to Encyclopedia Iranica

He delivered the Annual Redbridge SACRE lecture at London (1999), presented papers at International Oriental Congresses in Mumbai (1995, 2000, 2004), ARC Conventions in Kathmandu (2000) and London (2002), Convention of Zarthushti World Leaders in Mumbai (2003) and the 8th World Zoroastrian Congress at London (2005).

Since 2004 he is annually invited by ‘Charity Fund of Spiritual Culture.” to Moscow and other places in Russia, as also other CIS countries to conduct Seminars on Avestan Spiritual Traditions.
